Feb 2, 2010 - Here is a copy of my OLD post (word for word) to be honest they are both exactly the same bjj has incorporated many of the judo throws and takedowns (this is when bjj was developing by people like osvaldo alves and others) even tho i practice bjj, there is really no reason for bjj to exist considering all the moves already exist in judo. i DO think that the growing popularity of bjj and the rule differences(w/ judo) bjj has become more technical on the ground and judo with its stand up.

Feb 2, 2010 - i agree 100% i said that in my old post .. here ill copy and paste it for you

Feb 5, 2010 - It seems that the people who do something for a long time always have to deal wth new FADS. BJJ is a prime example. If you really know about BJJ and truly are good at it. This comment is not for you. If you just think you know something, look up Mitsuyo Maeda. Paying all due respect to his excellent students Hélio and Carlos Gracie. Marketing geniuses Rorion Gracie and Dana White.

Feb 23, 2010 - BJJ has been evolving under different competitive pressures than Judo for a long time now, so the strategies are obviously very different. But I'd argue that the teaching methodologies are identical, a combination of partnered drilling and extensive sparring (rolling/randori) with progressively increasing levels of resistance. The format should be instantly recognisable to practitioners of both arts, even if some of the techniques may seem a little esoteric to them (this works both ways).

Feb 24, 2010 - Si los judokas aprenden BJJ se hacen indestructibles en un torneo de Judo

Mar 2, 2010 - nicely said.
tyebo87 Says:
Mar 29, 2010 - although judo is played as a sport its rules were made and are still being made to emphasise good self defence. we judoka's look for high powered throws to end and confrontation instantly and if that fails look for a quick choke or arm lock to finish it. thats why our newaza has strict time limits because in the streets you dont want to be fighting on the ground for very long. also pins are understimated a good pinning technique allows you to hold an opponet long enough to use effective strikes

lamesurfer101 Says:
Apr 11, 2010 - @tyebo87 Actually time limits on the ground were placed because Kosen Judo practitioners made newaza so popular in national competition, and because many viewers saw it as boring. It was basically stripped down to make it more of a spectator sport.
jigoyawara Says:
judopathoftruth Says:
Apr 29, 2010 - did you see huzingas transitions.
JKT6 Says:
May 4, 2010 - I think BJJ Is way more effective, but I got to say watching Judo grappling makes it look alot more intense maybe due to all the limitations in the rules, especially the time limit
84justincase Says:
Aug 7, 2010 - I see that most of these submissions were done by Brazilians.
initdialog Says:
Aug 9, 2010 - @lamesurfer101 no, kano made up the time limit because judoka shouldn't neglect the stand-up grappling. the fights were too often going to the ground on purpose so he limited the time.
lamesurfer101 Says:
Aug 9, 2010 - @initdialog I think we said the same thing two different ways. The fights were going to the ground too often because Kosen Judo practitioners were trained to take it to the ground and use Newaza. Kano wanted to limit this behavior, because he wanted a balance of two skills. What ended up happening is that Judo practitioners have lost their prowess in newaza.
initdialog Says:
Aug 10, 2010 - @lamesurfer101 judo became so bad because of the olympics. since judo became a sport, it degraded continuously. bjj will suffer the same fate in a few decades.
emanresu81 Says:
Aug 26, 2010 - @lamesurfer101 What's a Kosen Judo ?
initdialog Says:
Feb 1, 2010 - "We can say that Judo is an art because it is a method of arriving at self-realization and true self-expression." - Jiichi Watanabe and Lindy Avakian or with Kano's words: "The purpose of my talk is to treat Judo as a culture, physical, mental, and moral -- but as it is based on the art of attack and defense, I shall first explain what physical Judo is."
